Clark County Fire Department has reached an exciting milestone in advancing prehospital trauma care. As highlighted in a recent 8 News Now article, CCFD is now the first agency in Nevada to carry and administer whole blood directly in the field—a development that has the potential to save countless lives.
Their EMS18 response vehicle is fully equipped to deliver whole blood to patients experiencing severe hemorrhage, dramatically improving survival odds during the critical minutes before hospital arrival. To support this effort, the department is utilizing the APRU6L in its whole blood program, ensuring safe, reliable temperature control and continuous readiness in even the most demanding conditions.
This initiative, powered by strong collaboration between CCFD, UMC, Vitalant, the Southern Nevada Health District, and Local 1908, sets the stage for broader regional adoption and represents a major step forward in emergency medical response across Southern Nevada.
