Allegiance Mobile Health Adds Whole Blood Transfusions to Coastal Bend Ambulances with DDT Products

Allegiance Mobile Health has introduced prehospital whole blood transfusions on its Rockport and Alice units, marking a major step forward for trauma care in the Coastal Bend. Paramedics can now begin transfusing low‑titer O‑negative whole blood in the field, giving critically injured patients lifesaving treatment up to an hour sooner than hospital arrival.

The program uses the APRU6L cold‑chain storage system to safely maintain whole blood at required temperatures throughout transport and deployment—an essential component for reliable, field‑ready transfusion capability. Whole blood provides red cells, plasma, and platelets in one product, offering the balanced resuscitation needed to stabilize patients in hemorrhagic shock.

To support the added demand on blood supply, Allegiance will partner with the Coastal Bend Blood Center to host local donation drives. Crews have completed specialized training in blood administration, monitoring, and APRU6L handling protocols to ensure safety and effectiveness.

This initiative reinforces Allegiance Mobile Health’s commitment to delivering hospital‑level interventions directly in the field—strengthening trauma response and improving outcomes across South Texas.
