Ventura County Fire Department is showcasing one of the most advanced tools in pre‑hospital care: the APRU6L whole blood system. In a new Instagram feature with @heartsofheroestv, Firefighter/Paramedic Tyler Miller walks viewers through one of VCFD’s Rescue Ambulances and highlights how the APRU enables crews to deliver life‑saving blood transfusions directly in the field—often long before a patient reaches the hospital.
VCFD operates five Rescue Ambulances across the county and every unit is fully equipped to support the whole blood program. Alongside the APRU, each ambulance carries essential ALS equipment including cardiac monitors, a LUCAS mechanical CPR device, and a Holmatro combination rescue tool. These units are staffed by two highly trained Firefighter/Paramedics prepared for any medical or rescue emergency.
Special thanks to Hearts of Heroes for spotlighting the lifesaving work happening every day in Ventura County.
