For patients facing severe trauma or medical emergencies involving significant blood loss, every second counts. By equipping EMS units with blood products, New Orleans medics can begin transfusions an average of 19 minutes earlier than waiting until hospital arrival. Those minutes can make the difference between life and death.

What was once only possible inside emergency departments is now happening directly on the streets. From violent injuries to complex medical crises, this program allows clinicians to deliver advanced interventions at the earliest possible moment, improving outcomes and expanding the capabilities of prehospital medicine.

Reaching 400 patients treated in the field reflects more than just a number. It represents the coordinated efforts of medics, supervisors, educators, physicians, and hospital partners who continue to push the boundaries of emergency care. It also underscores a shared commitment to innovation and excellence in serving the community.

With hundreds of lives already impacted and momentum continuing to build, New Orleans EMS is setting a powerful example of how forward-thinking programs can transform emergency response.

And as this milestone makes clear, they are just getting started.
