Clark County Fire Department is elevating emergency care with a whole blood pilot program that brings life-saving transfusions to the scene. As the first ground-based EMS agency in Nevada to implement this capability, crews can now treat severe blood loss immediately, improving outcomes before patients even reach the hospital.

Early results are promising, with multiple successful transfusions already completed. In a field where only a small percentage of EMS systems carry whole blood, Clark County is helping lead a growing shift toward earlier, more advanced intervention.

Supporting this effort is the DDT APRU 6L, a compact and reliable solution designed to maintain safe temperatures for blood products in fast-moving EMS environments. Its performance ensures clinicians have properly stored, ready-to-use blood when every second matters.

As the department evaluates the pilot’s success, this program could serve as a model for expanding prehospital transfusion capabilities nationwide.
