We’re pleased to share a new video highlighting an important advancement in emergency care at Saint Mary’s Hospital. In the video, Wes Kyle, MD, Director of Emergency Medical Services, discusses the launch of our new whole blood program and why it represents such a critical step forward for patients experiencing severe blood loss.

The video also features the ICE2L in action, demonstrating how this technology plays a key role in safely storing, managing, and rapidly delivering whole blood when seconds matter most. Whole blood transfusion remains very rare in Connecticut, and Saint Mary’s is proud to be among the first hospitals in the state to implement this lifesaving approach using innovative tools like the ICE2L.

As Dr. Kyle explains, combining whole blood with advanced systems allows care teams to act more quickly and efficiently during critical situations—helping stabilize patients sooner during some of their most vulnerable moments. This program reflects our continued commitment to innovation, collaboration, and improving outcomes for the patients and families who rely on us in emergencies.
