Washington County Division of Emergency Services (DES) has announced a groundbreaking Whole Blood Program aimed at saving lives in cases of severe blood loss. This initiative, in partnership with Meritus Medical Center, brings hospital-level care directly to patients in the field by enabling first responders to administer low-titer O whole blood (LTOWB) as quickly as possible.
To make this possible, Washington County has equipped EMS supervisor vehicles with specialized coolers designed to store and monitor whole blood safely. We’re proud to share that Delta Development Team’s ICE2L Smart Blood Cooler is part of this life-saving solution. ICE2L combines precise temperature control with advanced monitoring capabilities, ensuring blood products remain viable and compliant during transport and deployment.
This program represents a major advancement in prehospital care and demonstrates how innovative technology—like ICE2L—can help emergency services deliver critical interventions faster and more effectively. By integrating battlefield-proven practices with smart storage solutions, Washington County is setting a new standard for community health and safety.
